The Issue: Deteriorating Lead Flat Roof Coverings
Our client, an architectural firm based in SW1X, contacted us to carry out specialist works across multiple roof areas within their property portfolio. The building contained several tiers of lead-covered flat roofs, including both large open areas and smaller, condensed roof sections. Over time, the lead coverings had become weathered and required professional treatment to maintain waterproof integrity and prolong the lifespan of the roof system.
Following a full site inspection, we provided a detailed quotation outlining a complete cleaning, preparation, and liquid waterproofing system to protect the existing lead coverings. Once approved, the project was scheduled and our team mobilised to site.
Works Completed
Our roofing specialists began by thoroughly cleaning all lead flat roof coverings across both the upper and lower roof levels. This included the larger open roof spaces as well as the smaller condensed sections, ensuring all surfaces were fully prepared for the waterproofing system.
The project included the following key works:
-
Deep cleaning of all lead flat roof coverings across top-tier and lower-tier roof areas
-
Surface preparation to ensure optimal adhesion of the coating system
-
Application of Fibre 10 primer to stabilise and prepare the lead substrate
-
Installation of a Fibre 10 liquid plastic topcoat, forming a seamless waterproof membrane across the roof surfaces
-
Protective treatment to coping stones on two upper-tier roofs and three lower-tier roofs
-
Full site protection using dust sheets throughout the works
-
Complete waste removal and site clearance upon completion
All materials were applied in accordance with manufacturer specifications to ensure maximum durability and performance.
Outcome
The lead roof areas are now protected with a seamless liquid waterproofing system that significantly enhances resistance to weathering and water ingress. The Fibre 10 coating provides a durable protective barrier while maintaining flexibility across the lead surfaces.
The completed works deliver improved longevity and performance across all roof tiers, with the added reassurance of a 10-year workmanship guarantee.
By restoring and protecting the existing lead roofs rather than replacing them, the solution provided a cost-effective, long-term waterproofing system while preserving the original roof structure.
